It's no joke - some of the Latin Link office staff are running the Reading Half Marathon on April Fools' Day. Will they survive? Who will win? And how much money can they raise for Latin mission? Alan Tower, International Team Leader: The boss, who is rumoured to run 16 miles on a weekend for fun... Surely this can't be true? 'I'm looking forward to the challenge...'
Andrew Johnson, Britain and Ireland Team Leader: A menace on the badminton court, and a previous triathlon competitor - will he lead the way on 1 April? 'I like to think I'm still fit and active and this is a chance to prove it! Not sure I'll be able to keep up with the youngsters though!'
Charlotte Barker, Step: When she's not sending short-term teams to Latin America, Charlotte likes to go on insane bike rides... but will this be enough to get her round the course? 'My not-so-secret ambition is to beat Jon King, but I'd be almost as happy to finish in two hours.'
Jon King, Stride: 'What's a half marathon?' Jon is super prepared... 'I'm currently predicting a 16% chance of finishing under two hours, a 39% chance of ending up in an ambulance, and a 92% chance of destroyed feet by the end of the day.'
Alan sums up why they're doing it:
'We support dedicated Latin Link members who are serving alongside the Latin American Church for the long haul. Working to see God's kingdom come is a marathon, not a sprint! We'd like to think our training is a small reflection of the qualities we see in them. Please help us with our “running costs”, so we can carry on supporting their great work for years to come.'
